This class serves as a graduation requirement for English. In this class we concentrate on the study of literature, grammar, writing, and communication. Students in this class will increase their vocabulary skills by learning vocabulary words throughout the year. They will increase their writing skills by studying the Jane Shaffer writing method. They will increase their knowledge of grammar by studying parts of speech and other mechanics of the English language. The students will enjoy a wide variety of literature during the year. These include; a unit on short stories, the novel Lord of the Flies, the drama Romeo and Juliet, the epic poem The Odyssey, the play The Miracle Worker, and a unit on poetry.. Students will also read a work of fiction and a work of non-fiction on their own during the year. |
